You may be looking for a reading tutor. The Reading Rescue Coaching Program will show you your child already has one—You.

Most tutoring ends when the lessons end. The Reading Rescue Coaching Program is different. During every live session, you and your child will attend together so you can both learn—your child will learn to read smarter while you will learn how to guide, track, and improve your child's reading.

A Better Way to Build Reading Comprehension

Most struggling readers are asked to keep practicing with more books and more questions. But if they do not have a reliable way to navigate a story, every new text can feel like starting over.

Inside Reading Rescue Coaching, we use a three-step process:

Step 1 of 3

Teach the Framework

First, your child learns the patterns that appear in almost every story.

These patterns create a framework your child can use to navigate the beginning, middle, and end of a text—like dropping pins on a map before beginning a journey.

Instead of reading without knowing what to look for, your child begins to recognize where the story is going and how its important parts fit together.

Step 2 of 3

Guide the Reader

Next, we use carefully chosen questions to guide your child whenever they begin to lose track of the story.

The goal is not to give away the answer or do the thinking for them. It is to provide just enough direction to help them get back on track and continue reading independently.

Over time, your child begins asking these same questions internally.

Step 3 of 3

Track Progress

Finally, we measure how independently your child can navigate the story from beginning to end.

Rather than relying only on grades, worksheets, or whether an answer happens to be correct, we look at how much guidance your child needs to understand the text.

As your child becomes less dependent on prompting, you can clearly see their comprehension and confidence growing.

About the Author

David Marrufo holds a B.A. (Cum Laude) in English from UC Berkeley and an M.A. in Philosophy from San Francisco State University.

With over 15 years of experience teaching students across private schools, SAT programs, and one-on-one tutoring, he identified a common problem:

Students can read… but struggle to explain what they read.

To solve this, he created The Reading Rescue System—a structured methodology that helps students organize their thinking, identify key details, and build real comprehension.

The 30-Minute Reading Rescue Plan, The Reading Rescue Prep Packs, and The Reading Confidence Journal bring this system into the home—giving you a clear, structured way to guide your child's reading development step by step.

The aim of the Reading Rescue System is to equip parents to lead guided reading sessions at home that accelerate their child's reading comprehension.
